Sandrine Henriot, Morgon “L'Humeur Vagabonde” 2020

$27.00
Only 1 left in stock

Another beautifully alive Morgon from Sandrine Henriot, “L'Humeur Vagabonde,” references a movie of the same title that she remembers from her childhood. In one review, the main character is described as, “hanging around the streets of Paris, meeting people and holding conversations which always remain incomplete or deceptive.” It’s an odd naming choice for a beautifully balanced wine which presents itself as anything but incomplete. When asked to expand upon her choice, Sandrine explains that it seemed to capture the deceptively easy going, lighthearted nature of this cuvée, in which there is definitely something more going on underneath the surface. On that we can agree, as notes of red berries, maraschino cherry, almond and herbs hit the nose.

The 2020 vintage is the cuvées first and its biodynamically farmed grapes are sourced from several lieu-dit around the commune of Saint-Joseph above Villié Morgon. The vines are situated at one of the appellation’s higher altitudes meaning that cooler temps are a key factor in the freshness and acidity that balance out the rounder red and black berry aspects of the tasting profile.

After hand harvesting, the juice is fermented with wild yeast in a mix of stainless steel and old barrels. Along with minimal SO2 at bottling, what shines through is a pure and alive embodiment of the choice location these grapes come from and the attention to detail with which they were farmed.
