Fleurie 2022
Domaine de Leyre-Loup
The domaine’s Fleurie cuvée is made with grapes sourced from 3 hectares of vineyard spread over two lieu-dits - Poncié and Les Combes. The first has granitic soils while the latter consists of more sandy thin grounds. Both sites are steep and primarily south facing, exposing the 40+ year old vines to just the right amount of sun and wind to achieve proper ripeness. It’s from these two plots that winemaker Jaques Lanson crafts his elegant and silky expression of cru Beaujolaise from the appellation known for its namesake floral scent (Fleurie = “flowery”) .
In the vineyard, sustainable farming practices are used and the domaine has been awarded both the Terra Vitis and High Environmental Value certifications. After being hand harvested the grapes go through partial destemming and semi-carbonic maceration at low temperatures in stainless steel vats before being bottled at the domaine. The results are a beautiful garnet colored elixir that exudes aromas of violet and licorice while tasting of vivid red berry fruit with pleasant acidity. Altogether it’s a well balanced and quintessential Fleurie.
