Maison Charles Frey

The Frey family have roots near the medieval Alsatian village of Dambach-la-Ville going back centuries and patriarch Charles Frey first started producing his eponymous wine in the early 1960s. By the 1980s when his son Dominique joined the operation and began inserting his influence, he became convinced that they could produce a higher quality product by farming organic. By 1997 they had gone a step further, converting the entire vineyard into biodynamic agriculture and are now certified Demeter. This made the Frey family a pioneer in the area, well before others started using more natural farming methods.

Today, 3 generations of Frey’s work side by side as Charles’ grandson Julien joined the crew following his studies in viticulture and oenology in 2003. Work methods have evolved little by little with each generations’ input, but the fundamentals remained the same. They share a common vision of organic viticulture and the expression of local identity. With 14 hectares of vine now under cultivation, history continues to be written. As they start to push the boundaries toward an even purer expression of the land, the cuvées selected by Nice Find & Co are vinified using native yeasts with minimal or no sulfur added at bottling.
